[EN] In the 1970’s, the idea of making a clean sweep of the past was abandoned, buildings heights were limited, and a competition for young architects (New Architecture Programme) was organised by the French Ministry for Housing and Amenities and the RIVP (City of Paris) for this plot situated in a cul-de-sac.

Despite the project’s density, it is far from claustrophobic. Close and distant perspectives coexist in each space and apartment. Thanks to the rhythm of the façades, trees planted in open ground, the street, and its openness to the city, the 210 apartments benefit from a calm and light-filled interior architectural landscape.

This project rapidly revealed how contemporary architecture can accommodate and play with existing urban landscapes. It was first time he explored the idea of the open block, which he went on to develop in the 1980’s.
