This is the "Castel Gavone". The little castle is located in the near of Finale Ligure, Liguria, Italy.
«It is not possible to establish the exact date of construction of Castel Gavone seat of the Marquises Del Carretto who rises, when his bases were resting on a gigantic curvilinear rampart to scarp in the culminating point of the "Becchignolo".
One tells the castle to have been built in 1181 from "Heinrich II" an was used for defensive structures. Certainly it was reinforced in 1292.
It is a perfect example of military architecture of the slow Middle Ages. Many original materials of the castle, girders, stones and columns, were used during the time for the building of churches, portals and villas.
Access to the castle is blocked and not allowed because the castle is under heavy maintenance and repair. But you can manage to get very close. At my visit I didn´t know that the castle is closed and took the path under the small bridge which leads me into the castle.
To find the castle you can leave your car at N 44° 10.966 E 008° 19.168 and follow the small trail. Parts of the trail are a little hard to follow, to help visitors stay on the trail the maintenance people marked the trail with red dots.
