The purpose of this outdoor "living history" type museum is to provide insight into the living conditions from the early farming life in Arkansas to the era of statehood all the way thru mechanization. The land that these structures have been relocated to was originally a working cotton plantation. The structures you will find here include a 1840s dog trot log cabin, a hand-hewn cypress corncrib, one-room schools, Big House from one of the local plantations; tenant houses, commissary, doctor’s office, and a blacksmith shop.
There is also a Civil War interpretive sign at this location. The sign explains the Battle of Ashley’s Mill, which was part of the 1863 Little Rock Campaign led by Union General Frederick Steele, which ultimately led to the fall of Little Rock in 1863.
