19 year old Blair Vincent Shorter was competing in the 1991 'Avon Descent' ( the worlds longest whitewater event)when his kayak became wedged against one of the pylons of the Katrine Rd Bridge and he was drowned dispite efforts of rescue crews.
The plaque on a limestone rock is inscribed with-

'In memory of
Blair Vincent Shorter
11.12.71 - 3.8.91 19 years
Drowned at Katrine Bridge
as a competitor of the
1991 Avon Descent
