The Palm Canyon Trail is one of the most popular trails in the park and is located in a fee area. It is an approximate 2.5 mile round trip up a desert canyon to a palm oasis. Be sure to carry plenty of water (the park suggests 1 gallon per person) and check for the possibility of flash floods. There is ample parking at the trailhead.

There are a couple of trails that start up the canyon. One trail stays up above the arroyo and winds through ocatillo and other desert plants. In the spring the area is covered in desert wildflowers. We have seen bighorn sheep each time we've gone on this trail. The other trail stays in the arroyo where you can walk along and see the channel walls and the plants that try to grow in spite of the periodic flash floods. These two trails end up meeting about half way up usually where the stream starts to have water again.
At the end of the hike is a palm oasis with a few small waterfalls. The shade of the palms is a nice place to stop and have a snack and rest before heading back.
The trail is decently marked and maintained.
