In Castine's center is the Castine Visitor Center, which is a beautiful seaside town with lots of history associated with it.

The Castine Visitor Center is located in a brick building at the corner of Main and Water Street, in the lowest floor.

The center is a combined effort of town and merchant organizations. There are flyers, booklets, and maps available. We talked with the person there, getting ideas about places to visit and eat. There is actually quite a bit here. The doesn't seem to be a house that doesn't have a historical sign on a fence post. There are remains of forts and and a canal built for defensive purposes. There is a nice bakery that we went to for lunch, and a nice view of Penobscot Bay from several overlooks, including from the parking lot by the center.

Also at the time of the visit, the center had something on display in a fish tank: a piece of wood with a hole drilled through. That piece of wood was a section of the water pipe that they were replacing up the street!

Off the same parking lot are bathroom facilities.
