The dedication ceremony capped off efforts to erect a memorial to victims and first responders that took more than a decade to complete.
An American flag inscribed with the names of all 2,996 people who died in the attacks was presented to Texas Sen. Brian Birdwell. Birdwell was in the Pentagon when it was attacked. A copy of the flag is displayed in the park.
An honor guard from the Lacy Lakeview Police Dept. presented colors to open the ceremony. Hewitt VFW Post 6008 served barbecue after the ceremony.
Memorial was the result of efforts by a group of military veterans led by Bill Mahon. Mr. Mahon acted as master of ceremonies at the dedication.
