The Coventry Memorial Playground was built in 1972 on the site of the old Merthyr Vale School, with the monies collected by the people of Coventry. The children's playground is within Aberfan, South Wales.

The playground is looking rather sad, with some of the play frames removed on Health & Safety grounds.
"In 1966 the Welsh village of Aberfan lost children and adults when a hillside gave way crashing into the local school killing them.
The Birthday concert which was being held at Coventry theatre at the time featuring The Tornados,Mike and Bernie Winters,Johnny Hackett,Stan Stennett
raised so much money it was decided to use the money to build a playground for the remaining children.It was called the Coventry Playground and is still there today." text source; (
