The well preserved slate grave marker of Chester Smith is located in a family plot in the northwest part of Old Hadley Cemetery in Hadley, MA. The marker has a willow and urn motif in lunette and in the borders are columns to which are connected circles engraved with a starburst pattern.

Chester Smith was born on October 12, 1791, the son of Joseph and Eunice Smith. He accidentally died on January 25, 1810. His grave marker is inscribed:

instantly killed by the
upsetting of a load of

years.
