Abbot Hall was built in 1876 as a town hall, library and auditorium. The tower is capped by a tall and steep hip roof topped by a gilded banner weathervane.

The weathervane had the typical NEWS pointers mounted to a singular pole with a double ring, looking very crown-like. The vane itself says Abbot.
