There is now an empty space in the middle of Aberfan, This calm green memorial space, is all that remains of Pantglas Junior School, the building was at the centre of a disaster that overwhelmed Aberfan, & shocked the World, nearly 50 years ago.

On a Friday morning At 9.15 am, 21st October 1966, there was an event that shocked the people of Wales & stunned the World.
A 40 feet high tidal wave of coal slurry slid down the mountain above Aberfan, crashing into the Pantglas Junior School, killing 116 children and 28 adults.
How the people of this small Welsh village, including friends relatives & parents coped with disaster we will never know, but the people of the World united to help support them.
The Headline from the BBC on 21st October 1966 reads;
"Coal tip buries children in Aberfan"
"More than 130 people, mainly children, have been buried by a coal slag heap at Aberfan, near Merthyr Tydfil in Wales." Text Source: (
