This impressive monument has the family name, "Henderson", below the inscription plates on the two long sides. A single rose decorates each of the cap's long sides, and on the two short sides, kneeling angels are depicted. The front has this inscription:

This marks the resting place
of
Mary Ella Ruffin,

Wife of
Jethro P. Henderson,

Born February 5, 1850,
Left us June 22, 1905;

Who was a devoted and much loved daughter,
always keeping the commands of her father
and never forsaking the laws of her mother.

A true, pure, unselfish, affectionate and
industrious wife and a crown to her
husband.

The inscription on the reverse is:

A mother whose strong
character, love and
generosity and true motherhood
made her a mother to her children
worth of all acceptation.

A Christian with unfeigned faith
that Jesus was the Christ, the
Son of the living God, and would
at the last day raise her up into
the resurrection of eternal life.
