Beginning in 1977 the SeaBus has served passengers travelling from North Vancouver to Vancouver. This passenger-only service replaced another Burrard Inlet passenger-only ferry service that ran from 1900 until 1958.

Today the SeaBus has currently four vessels in operation. The first two - The Burrard Beaver and the Burrard Otter - have been in service since opening day on June 17, 1977. All four vessels have a capacity of 385 passengers.

The SeaBus is owned and operated by TransLink, a local transit authority. As such passengers can transfer to buses and trains on a single fare whisking them throughout Metro Vancouver.
