This is a High Street pub first recorded in 1478. It is once one of Sittingbourne's main inns, used by pilgrims on the way to Canterbury and an important stopping point between London and the coast, but only a small part of it remains, its failure as a hotel put down to the coming of the railway.
It seems to have had a few name changes in the decades since I was last in there, 1988 I believe. Back then it was The George, and not one we would often frequent on our Friday night forays down the high street pubs. At some point it became The Entertainer, and then renamed the George & Dragon, then briefly Bargain Boozer £ Pub, but appears to have reverted back to The George. Some of the original 15th Century architectural features have been uncovered by recent renovation.
