The Three Ways Meeting Point, next to the Vauxhall Bridge, is the start and end of three of Norfolk's long distance footpaths. The Angles Way is a 93 mile path from here to Thetford along the Norfolk and Suffolk Border, The Weavers Way is a 61 mile route through Broadland to Cromer and The Wherryman's Way travels along the riverside to Norwich. The paths converge here beside the Vauxhall Bridge over the River Bure.
The sculpture depicts the sail of a Norfolk Wherry. These shallow draught sailing barges, unique to the Norfolk Broads, were once the main means of transporting cargo between the many riverside towns and villages in Norfolk and the Waveney Valley. Known as 'Black sailed traders' the single sail was gaff rigged and raised on a counter balanced mast that enabled the craft to be sailed by one man. Later versions were kitted out for passengers and were the forerunners of todays holiday craft. A single trading wherry, the Albion, and several passenger wherries still sail the broads.
