Homestake Mining Co. compressed air locomotive No. 35 was built by H. K. Porter, Inc. in 1931. The giant rivets are the tell that this is a compressed air locomotive not a steam unit. No one was ever injured from these units exploding from the extreme pressure that was stored.



"The 18" gauge locomotive was construction number 7201 and built 4/1931 with 6x10 cylinders, a 36" wheelbase and weighted 5 tons. This was the last compressed air locomotive built by Porter for the Homestake Mining Co." (visit link)
