Vilém Gross (1894, Padochov – 1977), archeolog, historik, cestovatel a malír. Popsal nekolik nových paleolitických nalezišt na Brnensku, organizoval první velkou hornickou výstavu v Oslavanech. Je pohrben na hrbitove v Oslavanech.

Vilém Gross (26. 5. 1894 – 8. 2. 1977) se narodil do havírské rodiny a vyucil se zámecníkem. Velkou cást mládí strávil v Ceských Budejovicích, kde pracoval v Zátkových mlýnech, a v hornorakouském Steyru jako zamestnanec tamní Zbrojovky. Zájem o prírodu a horniny jej privedl do známých rakouských muzeí a kamenolomu, procestoval Alpy a zážitky z techto výprav uverejnoval v casopisu delnických turistu. Po první svetové válce, kterou prožil na italské a rumunské fronte, se vrátil do vlasti a v roce 1927 se prestehoval do Oslavan, kde nastoupil v místní elektrárne jako zámecník. Ve volném case prozkoumával archeologická nalezište v okolí a vedl i samostatné pruzkumy v okolí Ivancic a Oslavan, ale treba také na únetickém pohrebišti v Zábrdovicích. Objevil a popsal nekolik nových paleolitických nalezišt. V roce 1941 byl spoluorganizátorem první velké hornické výstavy v Oslavanech, kterou navštívilo neuveritelných 15 tisíc lidí. Tehdy se poprvé objevila myšlenka vytvorení muzea.
Do roku 1965 pusobil Vilém Gross jako kustod v ivancickém muzeu. Porádal prednášky a besedy pro školy i širokou verejnost, rád pracoval s mladými lidmi. Venoval se také mineralogii, jeho nálezy jsou dnes umísteny i v Moravském muzeu v Brne. Výtvarný talent využil v grafickém znázornování nalezišt i samotných nálezu, dokázal bravurne vystihnout barvy i prostredí. U malování pak zustal i v pokrocilejším veku, svá díla prezentoval na ruzných výstavách, organizoval i výstavy ostatním amatérským malírum. Vilém Gross zemrel v triaosmdesáti letech, pochován je na oslavanském hrbitove. Zanechal po sobe rozsáhlé cenné dílo, z nehož cerpali i další badatelé, a právem se radí mezi nejvýznamnejší osobnosti Oslavan.

Vilém Gross (1894, Padochov - 1977), archaeologist, historian, traveler and painter. He described several new Palaeolithic sites in the Brno, organized the first major mining exhibition in Oslavany. He is buried at the cemetery in Oslavany.

Vilém Gross (26. 5. 1894 - 8. 2. 1977) was born into a miner's family and trained as a locksmith. A large part of his youth spent in the Czech Budejovice, where he worked in the mills plugs and Steyr in Upper Austria as an employee of the local Zbrojovky. Concern for nature and rocks brought him to a well-known Austrian museums and quarries, traveled through the Alps and the experiences of these expeditions he published in the journal working-class tourists. After World War I, he lived on the Italian and Romanian front, he returned to his homeland and in 1927 he moved to Oslavan, where he joined the local power plant as a locksmith. In his spare time exploring the archaeological sites in the area and has also done independent research in Ivancice and Oslavany, but must also Únetický cemetery in Zábrdovice. He discovered and described several new Palaeolithic sites. In 1941 he was co-organizer of the first major mining exhibition in Oslavany visited by a whopping 15 thousand people. William Gross died at eighty-three years, and is buried at the cemetery Oslavany.
