This simple plaque commemorates the people killed and injured in a munitions factory explosion during the First World War.

The metal plaque is fixed to a low stone plinth and surrounded by cobblestones. It is near the car park entrance to Victoria Park, just in front of an open grassed park land area.
The Low Moor Explosion

The Low Moor Munition Works manufactured
Lyddite, used in shrapnel shells, in support of
the soldiers fighting in the first world war.

On the 21st August 1916 a fire caused a massive
explosion in which 38 people lost their lives and
104 were injured.

Many of those lived locally and included
Munition Workers, Firemen and Police Officers.

This plaque has been erected in memory of those
people who lost their lives and was unveiled by
Councillor Daniel Mangham, Wyke Ward
on April 10th 2002.
