This board dedicated to the local poultryman, Vern L. Zander, is located in a small park in Winlock, Washington.

The inscription on the board goes as follow:

Vern Zander Memorial Park
Vern Zander (1904-1993) was the poultryman who put Winlock
on map as Egg Capital of the World. In 1991, he funded this,
the World's Largest Egg.
Vern was a charter member of the Winlock Lions Club when it was formed in 1947 and was active in promoting community projects.
In 1993, club members named this park in memory of their friend and fellow Lion.

Winlock was America's second largest egg producing town until the 1950s, and local egg pride remains strong. The first big egg was fashioned from canvas by town boosters in 1923, part of a celebration around the opening of the Pacific Highway. A plastic version replaced it in 1944. In the 1960s, the egg was upgraded to a fiberglass model, which lasted until the early 1990s. A local chicken hatcheryman, Vern L. Zander, funded the most recent egg before his death in 1993. Winlock holds its Egg Day festival on the third weekend in June.

The current egg was made by Beverly Roberts, on October 24, 1990. The new egg was to be completed by parade time the following May.

Winlock is a city in Lewis County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,339 at the 2010 census. It was named after territorial army general, Winlock M. Miller, who briefly resided there. Winlock is mostly famous for having the World's Largest Egg, reflecting its former status as a major producer of eggs. Early in its history, Winlock attracted many immigrants from Finland, Sweden and Germany.
