A city website indicates the following:
“After recovering from the war and reconstruction, Fayetteville again began to grow and prosper. 1888 was a significant time in Fayetteville’s history. That was the year that the railroad, which ran from Atlanta to Fort Valley via Fayetteville began operation. Fayetteville was also incorporated as a city by the state legislature and the city limits were extended in a one-half mile radius from the courthouse.”
