The fountain is dedicated to St. Martin.
It has been created as a memorial for saving the city of Memmingen during World War II - espacially on April 26, 1945.
The fountain and the relief of St. Martin have been created by the local artist Max Pöppel.
The relief shows St. Martin sitting on his horse deviding his jacket with the bagger.
