The first year of the Design Awards saw a vast ammount of interest generated with 62 schemes, in all, nominated. These 62 schemes were placed into 3 different categories by an expert panel of five judges was chaired by Max Farrell, project leader for the Farrell Review of Architecture and the Built Environment, published in 2014.The categories ,in which the nominations were housed into, consisted of New Build, Restoration and Public Realm. These 62 nominations were then later whittled down by the panel of judges to a shortlist of 12 (4 in each of the 3 categories). Each of the shortlisted entrants won either a highly commended award, a judges special prize or were the out right winner of their category.

Arundel’s new museum is a huge community achievement, praised for its considered response both to local and visitor need and to its setting in terms of townscape and history. The project has maximised the available space and worked within a limited budget to produce a high quality and efficient design which ‘reaches out’ to the community and impresses with its social and environmental sustainability.
