EN: These remains of a Roman watchtower are located at the junction of the road to Rheinsulz. They were discovered in 1987 during road construction. The northern part was already destroyed, but the southern part of the foundation could be preserved.

The tower was built around the year 370 under Emperor Valentinian as part of the border fortifications against the Alemanni north of the Rhine. It was one of the most powerful watchtowers along this border known today, with a floor plan of 14.7 to 15.2 meters and a wall thickness of 2.3 meters.

DE: Diese Überreste eines römischen Wachtturms befinden sich an der Abzweigung der Strasse nach Rheinsulz. Sie wurden 1987 beim Strassenbau entdeckt. Der nördliche Teil war schon zerstört, aber der südliche Bereich des Fundaments konnte konserviert werden.

Der Turm entstand um das Jahr 370 unter Kaiser Valentinianus als Teil der Grenzverstärkung gegen die Alemannen nördlich des Rheins. Er war einer der mächtigsten heute bekannten Wachttürme dieser Grenze mit einer Grundfläche von 14.7 auf 15.2 Metern und einer Mauerstärke von 2.3 Metern.
