This is one of 3 recreational lake dams that were constructed by the CCC. During the Great Depression, CCC crews built a barrack nearby and planted trees. The dams were built to make lakes for fishing and swimming. Today North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission rule do not allow swimming in these empoundments.
