The castle and chateau of Staré Hrady near Jicína is a unique Renaissance group of buildings with figural sgraffito. The first mention dates back to 1340. It was originally a Gothic castle, with the characteristic elements created in the shop of Petr Parlér, with an adjacent Renaissance chateau and bailey.

Zámek vznikl prestavbou got. tvrze, postavené pred r. 1384 Vilémem ze Staré u starší tvrze (snad 13. stol., postav. Arnoštem ze Staré). V l. 1571-73 prestavba sídla Jirím Pruskovským z Pruskova na renes. zámek.

V roce 2008 byl objekt po opravách nove otevren verejnosti se tremi prohlídkovými okruhy. Hradem a zámkem vede prohlídkový okruh Jak se žilo za císare pána Františka Josefa I., kde mnoho tisíc exponátu predstavuje život prostých lidí, meštanu a šlechty v dobe vrcholu habsburské monarchie.
