This speeder was manufactured by Fairmont Railway Motors Ltd. in Toronto, Ontario. It is belt driven and has a single cylinder, water cooled engine of approx. 6-8 hp. The cylinder head on these engines was air cooled, though, not water cooled. Given that this speeder is elevated on a steel pedestal, the nameplate wasn't accessible, so we can't say exactly what model this one is. Built for northern climes, the speeder is completely enclosed.
This speeder is painted in the CPR's familiar yellow, but wears a Pacific Great Eastern Decal. Whether or not this is original is open to conjecture. It likely is, as the Pacific Great Eastern Railway (PGE) continued in operation, though government owned, until 2004, when operation was taken over by by Canadian National.
It is assumed that Fairmont Railway Motors Ltd. of Toronto, ON is a Canadian subsidiary of Fairmont Railway Motors Inc., of Fairmont, Minnesota.
