His headstone has the family name, "Compton", on the plinth, and an open book, possibly a Bible, at the top. The headstone depicts the Gates of Heaven -- one might almost think that was the back of a baseball hat in front of them -- with this inscription:

O.E. Son of

E.B. & M.J.
Compton

Born
June 26, 1895

Killed by base ball

July 2, 1910

Death is but a path that
must be trod
if man would pass to God

The Internet is quiet about the fate of this young boy, but a few cemetery-related websites for Jack County suggest that he was hit in the head by a baseball.
