In Prospect, within the Fort Knox State Park and Observatory, is this Rodman type cannon located in Battery A.
The fort is located on the western bank of the Penobscot River, just north of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. There is an entrance fee and the parking area is just beyond the entrance. There is a path to the fort and a path and a tunnel that leads to Battery A. The cannon is located at one of the positions where a cannon would be.
According to a nearby sign, the cannon has a 15 inch bore and is one of two surviving cannons from this fort. It is black and has a smooth, curving surface. It is mounted on a cradle which has wheels allowing it to be (at one time) positioned horizontally.
