The population of anglophone school children, managers' families and skilled laborers grew steadily, and the original building was expanded in 1948 with the addition of new classrooms, then with the construction of a gymnasium in 1959.
After the students and staff were relocated to the McCormick school building, the building came under the stewardship of the Town of Baie Comeau, which turned it into a cultural center and home for the applied and visual arts, a dance school, a music school and theater groups.
