John William Higgs, a lifelong resident of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Anderson, Missouri at the age of 101 years, 10 months and 6 days.

He served in the United States Army during WWII. On 13 May 1929 he married Martha W. Fitton, then shared 64 years together before her passing on October 15, 1994. John worked as a telegrapher for Kansas City Southern Railroad and Gulf Oil Company. Later he dealt in real estate throughout McDonald County. He enjoyed hunting raccoons, fishing, and gardening. He attended the Anderson United Methodist Church.
