The family of Cherokee native American Moses Eagle arrived in the area that would be come Stella in 1844. Later, the railroad sold land to Moses Eagle, and from that humble beginning a town was started. But what to name it? Moses named it after his daughter Stella. The town was incorporated in 1930.
This town park along South Indian Creek is pretty small. It only has 3 picnic tables and a playground. But it is a gathering place for aficionados of eagles. From November through March the eagles like to nest in the sycamore trees along the creek. Folks come and quietly watch the eagles during these cold months.
Around the parking area you can find trees and shrubs that have identification signs on them. This area serves as kind of a botanical garden.
