This bridge spans a track and originally carried the Spen Valley Railway Line. It now carries the 'rails to trails' Spen Vally Greenway.

The rail line originally connected Low Moor with Dewsbury and opened in 1848.
The line closed to passenger traffic in 1965 but continued to carry goods traffic until this finally ceased in 1981.
In 2000 a stretch of the line between Dewsbury and Oakenshw was converted to a cycling and walking route called the Spen Valley Greenway. The bridge is now used to carry cyclists, pedestrians and horseriders along the route.

The track below the bridge is paved and connects Ashton Clough Road to Headlands Road. It looks like the track used to carry motor vehicles, but has now been partly blocked so that it is restricted to cyclists and pedestrians.
There is also another track connected to this that gives access to the main route of the Spen Valley Greenway.
