Ship Point Plaza opened on May 4, 2010 to celebrate the centennial of the Canadian Navy. One of the features of the plaza is the commemorative bricks, which can be purchased to support military families through the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre. Small bricks can be purchased for $200, and large bricks for $350. In between the commemorative bricks are five large stone bars engraved with the five oceans sailed by the Canadian Navy: Antarctic, Indian, Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic. The commemorative bricks originally only filled the area bounded by these five bars, but new rows are being added to replace the grey bricks at the bottom as needed. With enough support, the entire plaza could eventually be filled with the commemorative bricks.
