Dewsbury Country Park
The Dewsbury Country Park was opened in 2012 and was created on an old landfill site. The site has been grassed over and footpaths and cycle routes laid out, some of which have a hard surface.
In addition it is also being planted with a large number of trees to form the biggest new wood in the North of England. It is one of 60 Jubilee Woods being planted throughout the UK to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Dewsbury Country Park is 188 acres and the wood will take up 101 acres. As at 2013 39000 trees had been planted.
The bridge
This bridge carries a track that connect to the main entrance to the park where the car park is also situated.
The paths through the park are primarily intended for cyclists, walkers and wheel chair users, but this route leads to a methane burner, that burns off methane seeping from this old landfill site.
The bridge was probably originally the main access point for vehicles dumping waste at the landfill. Large tyre tracks are visble in the mud near the bridge, so it is probably used by maintenance vehicles visiting the methane burner and for any other jobs in the park
