The Spen Valley Greenway
The Spen Valley Greenway is a rails to trails cycle route designed to be used not only by cyclists, but also walkers, horse riders and wheel chair users.

It links the towns of Oakenshaw and Dewsbury and was opened in 2001.

Dewsbury Country Park
The Dewsbury Country Park was opened in 2012 and was created on an old landfill site. The site has been grassed over and footpaths and cycle routes laid out, some of which have a hard surface. In addition it is also being planted with a large number of trees to form the biggest new wood in the North of England. It is one of 60 Jubilee Woods being planted throughout the UK to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Dewsbury Country Park is 188 acres and the wood will take up 101 acres. As at 2013 39000 trees had been planted.

The Map
The Spen Valley Greenway runs very close to the boundary of the park on its eastern side. The map marks one of the access points to the Country Park just off the Greenway near to Carr Lane, and is one one of the places where the path through the park is a hard surface. One of the paths at this junction runs parallel with the Greenway and runs next to some ponds that have been dug to try and attract wild life to the site.

This point is also close to a path that leaves the Greenway in the opposite direction towards Deswbury Moor, and this is marked on the map with an arrow head.
