In Belfast, in front of City Hall, is an obelisk serving as the Civil War monument for the city.
The monument is located along Church Street, in the front lawn, prominently displayed.
The monument is a square structure over 10 ft high (estimated). The base is roughly hewn. Above that are stepped parts and above that is a slightly tapering portion. On the face toward the road is the following text: "Boys of 1861 to 1865." and another, wider section above it. On each face at this section is the word, "G.A.R." From there, the upper section visibly tapers then ends at a sharp pyramid point.
Sources indicate that the monument has been around since May 30, 1924, it's made of granite, and cost $1750 to build then.
