Naramata is probably the quietest community you'll encounter in the Okanagan Valley. This small rural community has just over 2,000 residents.
The post office has postal boxes available 24/7 to the residents as no home delivery is available. The postal boxes are located outside to the side of the post office.
The post office is to the side of the Naramata General Store. The store is one of the oldest established businesses in the area.
Using the term "General Store" is not trite by any means. This is a very unique store, with original flooring and ceilings, and filled with every imaginable dry goods, fresh produce, deli, liquor, video rental, and recycling. Every convenience imaginable: a good old fashioned general store.
BTW: there is no gas services in Naramata, so when visiting keep this in mind and fill your tank before making the trip.
In the early days, this community was a cultural arts center for concerts, plays, operas and regattas.
History tells a story of the village founder's affinity for the occult and that he came by the town name at a séance he attended that was held by the local postmaster’s wife.
The séance celebrated the spirit of a Sioux chief, Naramata. And the town that was named after her means 'Smile of the Manitou'.
