The monument to Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz is located in Krakow's Old Town Square.
Wikipedia's page for the monument (
visit link) has additional photos and identifies that this is the Muse of Poetry...there are actually two muses for poetry.... Erato for lyric poetry and Euterpe for elegiac poetry. Since this Muse actually is playing a lyre.... it is clear she is Erato.
As for the asteroid, Wikipedia (
visit link) informs us:
"62 Erato ... is a large and dark, probably carbonaceous Themistian asteroid.[citation needed] It is a member of the Eos family.
Erato is the first asteroid to have been credited with co-discoverers, Oskar Lesser and Wilhelm Forster, who discovered it on September 14, 1860 from the Berlin Observatory. It was their first and only asteroid discovery. The name was chosen by Johann Franz Encke, director of the observatory, and refers to Erato, the Muse of lyric poetry in Greek mythology."
