The equestrian statue represents the allegory of "La Libertà sul sauro destrier de la canzone" (Freedom on the sorrel horse of the canzone), inspired by a poetry of the Italian poet and Nobel prize winner in 1906 Giosuè Carducci. It's a part of a monumental complex dedicated to Carducci in the garden of his house in Bologna. The Freedom, a warrior woman with a helmet, is riding a fiery and powerful horse (the impetus of artistic creation), with two figures by side: at right the Rhythm, pushing forward the horse, and at left the Rhyme, aiming for embrace Freedom. The preparation of the entire monument, in Carrara marble, lasted from 1908 to 1928. The equestrian group was the first to be ready, in 1921. It measures 2.4 x 4 m and weights 30 tons. The monument is a Modern Style masterpiece.
