From the Chilliwack History Perspectives Facebook page:
By the latter part of the 1940s the aging fire hall on Main Street had become obsolete and no longer viable for Chilliwack’s needs. The City acquired a vacant lot at the south-west corner of Young Road North and Victoria Avenue and plans were drawn up to construct a new 5,000 square-foot fire hall. On Wednesday, June 22, 1949 Chilliwack’s new $45,000 Fire Hall No. 1 opened to much fanfare. At the time, the new fire hall was described as “the most modern firehall of its size in BC” and “ultra-modern in its appearance”. The 800-pound cast-iron bell that had been at the original Fire Hall No. 1 on Main Street was installed at the top of the new structure, eventually to be replaced later in the 1950s by powerful sirens.
Today, the City’s old Fire Hall No. 1 on Young Road North houses the offices of the design firm Craven Huston Powers Architects.
