This Lewes Borough Council plaque is attached to a building at the junction of Lewes High Street and St Martin's Lane being on the face of the latter. The "inn" of the Steward probably sttod here.

The plaque, dated 1983, tells us:

Stewards Inn

This building opposite the
Castle Gateway is probably
part of the "Inn" of the
Steward of the
Barony and Manor
of Lewes.
It ceased to
be used as such
after 1361.
