The memorial was opened by Major General C. M. I. Pearson A.O. D.S.O. O.B.B. M.C. RTD (now deceased) who was a Commander of Australian Forces during the Vietnam War. He was also the Commandant of the Royal Military College, Duntroon from 1970 to 73. He served in the Second World War from 1942 to 45, in Singapore in 1966 & in Vietnam from 1968 to 69.
After his retirement from military service he was an Executive Director, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW & a Director with Brickworks Ltd.
He died aged 94 on 7 November 2012.

This memorial was erected by the Vietnam Veterans (Illawarra).
This memorial was dedicated and officially opened on 5th October 1987 by Major General C. M. I. Pearson A.O. D.S.O. O.B.B. M.C. RTD to perpetuate the memory of our fallen comrades.
