This aqueduct was built in the 18th Century as part of the old system of water supply to the city. The water would come from the mountains located north of Nicosia and directed mainly to the farms in the suburbs.

Its arched structure started near Kirenia gate and went all the way to Famagusta gate in the east.

In the 19th Century the structure was renovated and improved.
