Stone Bridge 134 On The Leeds Liverpool Canal – Burnley, UK - Arch Bridges on Waymarking.com

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

The bridge is also known as Lodge Bridge and is a Historic England Grade II listed building with the following description. "Public road bridge over Leeds-Liverpool Canal. c1790-6. For Leeds-Liverpool Canal Company; engineer, Robert Whitworth; altered. Coursed squared sandstone. Semi-elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs, plain bands, parapets with ridged coping, concave curved abutments and rectangular terminal piers; oval number plate "134" on central voussoir of north side; C20 metal footbridge attached to south side. North parapet slightly damaged at time of survey (1991)."

One side of the bridge has a modern concrete footbridge next to it and on the other side a pipe runs across the bridge parapet.
