Canyon View Cemetery is within the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District and was dedicated in 1968.
There is an impressive Veteran section that each gravesite has a cross with the traditions Canadian poppy. We estimate there are over 300 veterans interred here. The poppy was inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields" written by John McCrae in May 1915.
We did photograph a few of the Veterans grave markers and we honor them here;
Clarence K. Adolph – Corporal R.C.A.S.C. – May 3, 1969
Fredrick Prokopenko – Gunner R.C.A. – January 18, 1988
W.C. “Bill” McCutcheon – 1914-1995
Jacob Penner – TRP – B.C. Dragoons – 1915-1995
Leonard Jones - L/S RCN – June 12, 2008
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
