Close-up of headstone inscription:

HOWARD A. PRATHER
JAN. 24, 1895
MAR. 6, 1954

ABOUT THE CEMETERY:

"This 26 acre cemetery is on land that was deeded to the City of Jacksonville Beach, Florida to be used as a burial area. An 8-foot marble monument stands at the southeast corner dedicated by the City of Jacksonville Beach in memory of the legendary victims of Yellow Fever 1888-1889. The cemetery was named in honor of H. Warren Smith, who served in 1914 as mayor of the town of Pablo Beach. Pablo Beach was incorporated as the city of Jacksonville Beach in 1925. The current caretaker, Ike McBride, has been in charge of the cemetery for 20 years and was gracious enough to provide me with the plot plans of the entire 26 acres. Since all plots have been sold and there are a tremendous number of unmarked graves, the plans helped identify plot numbers. There are about 5,000 grave sites with approximately 3,500 headstones.

The cemetery is bordered by private property and three roads; Beach Boulevard (Route 90), Penman Road and 2nd Avenue North. Five entrances divide the grounds into eleven sections. There are two Mausoleum's; one facing Beach Boulevard, the other facing 2nd Avenue North. The grounds are well kept and only a few headstones are in disrepair."
