     The BLUE WING INN, 217 Spain St. East, a long, shabby, shingle-roofed adobe building with a balcony, was reputedly the first hotel north of San Francisco at the time of its erection in the early 1840's. It houses an old music box that still tinkles when fed coins, and Sonoma's first fire engine, decorated with faded birds and flowers. The

I wasn't able to visit the interior of the Blue Wing Inn to see if the music box and fire engine are still there. There is an official California Historical Marker that hangs in front of the building that highlights its significance. Not mentioned in the guide is that fact that Ulysses S. Grant once stayed at this inn.
