     MISSION SAN FRANCISCO DEL SOLANO, at the northeastern corner of the plaza, now a State Museum (open 10-4), was restored in 1910-14, after the chapel had served since 1880 as storehouse for cattle feed and the cloisters as wine cellars. The chapel (1824) and a tile-roofed one-story wing belong to the early days. The original mission bell, green with age, hangs near the door. In the cool, dim interior, old heavy unpainted beams support an adobe ceiling. One room houses pioneer relics, and another, examples of Indian handicraft.

Although I didn't visit the interior of the museum, it looks to be pretty much the same as it did when the guide was written. In fact, the old bell, the only survivor of the original bells of the mission, still hangs in front and was forged in 1829.

This mission building is part of a much larger California State Park that comprises six buildings cloistered around Sonoma Plaza as well as acreage north of the plaza which was once home to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, governor of the Mexican territory here until the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846.
