This manhole cover is stamped with the seal of the City of Chandler. It is located close to the historic center of the city. It covers the storm sewer for the area. The seal of the city features a C at the top edge. Below that is the symbolic outline of the nearby San Tan mountains with the outline of the city buildings within. Radiating out from the city skyline are symbolic irrigation ditches. For most of its existence, both historic and prehistoric, Chandler has been an agricultural center. Historical crops included cotton, predominantly for tires, and alfalfa. The canals serving the current farmland were first established by the Hohokam peoples in the 1300's to grow crops.
