Sv. Alois Gonzaga se narodil 9. brezna 1568 v Castiglione u Mantovy v severní Itálii. Jako prvorozený syn markýze byl nejprve pážetem na florentském dvore a potom nekolik let ve Španelsku. Po návratu domu (1585) se zrekl dedických práv ve prospech svého mladšího bratra a vstoupil k jezuitum. Pri ošetrování nemocných morem se nakazil a zemrel 21. cervna 1591 v Ríme. V roce 1726 byl prohlášen za svatého a brzy nato (1729) za patrona studující mládeže.

St. Alois Gonzaga was born on March 9, 1568 in Castiglione of Mantua in northern Italy. As the eldest son of the Marquis was first squire to the Florentine court and then several years in Spain. After returning home (1585) to renounce the inheritance rights in favor of his younger brother and joined the Jesuits. When treating patients infected with the plague and died June 21, 1591 in Rome. In 1726 he was declared a saint, and soon afterwards (1729) as the patron of studying youth.
